CHI Elections Announcement
Our union is seeking engaged and committed members to serve in elected leadership roles. CHI is strongest when members step forward to contribute their time, perspectives, and skills to strengthen our union and support advocacy efforts across our campus.
Members are invited to consider running for the CHI Executive Board and participating in the leadership work that helps guide our Association, represent member voices, and advance our collective priorities.
Executive Board Elections
The CHI Executive Board is composed of elected officers who help lead, coordinate, and support the work of the Association. Executive Board positions include:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
All Executive Board members must be Active CHI members in good standing. Elections follow CHI/CTA procedures, including open nominations, secret ballot voting, and participation by Active members.

CHI Executive Board Roles & Responsibilities
President
The President serves as the chief executive officer and official spokesperson of the Association.
- Presides at meetings of the Association, Representative Council, and Executive Board
- Prepares meeting agendas
- Serves as the official spokesperson for the Association
- Calls meetings as needed
- Appoints committee chairs, committee members, and Bargaining Team members
- Suggests policies, plans, and activities for the Association
- Oversees the progress and work of the Association
- Attends CTA/NEA and Service Center Council meetings as required
- Authorizes payment of funds as necessary
Vice President
The Vice President supports the President and helps coordinate Association activities.
- Assists the President in all duties
- Assumes the duties of the President in the President’s absence
- Coordinates and distributes the Association calendar of activities
- Supports committee activities at the direction of the President
Secretary
The Secretary maintains official records and supports communication across the Association.
- Keeps accurate records of meetings
- Distributes meeting minutes, notices, and agendas
- Maintains the membership roster and committee lists
- Handles Association correspondence as directed by the President
Treasurer
The Treasurer manages the financial responsibilities of the Association.
- Receives and safeguards Association funds
- Pays funds as authorized
- Provides written financial reports at regular meetings
- Oversees the annual audit of Association finances
- Submits required financial and membership reports to CTA, NEA, and other agencies
Representative Council Responsibilities
The Representative Council is the policy-making body of the Association. It is composed of Active members through whom decision-making is accountable to the membership.
Representative Council Responsibilities Include:
- Establishing Association policies and objectives
- Adopting the annual Association budget
- Approving the establishment or discontinuance of committees and task forces
- Establishing Association dues
- Representing the views and input of Active members
- Serving as a communication link between members and union leadership
- Participating in votes and decision-making on behalf of the membership
Role of Representatives
Representatives serve as an important connection between members and the Association. Their responsibilities include:
- Maintaining ongoing communication between members and Representative Council
- Sharing written communications and union updates with members
- Gathering member input and feedback
- Representing member views in Representative Council votes
- Completing additional duties as assigned by the Executive Board
