About CHI

The Long Beach Community College Certificated Hourly Instructors (CHI/CTA/NEA) is the sole and exclusive bargaining agent for certificated unit members. Specifically, the unit shall include: hourly certificated employees serving in positions such as instructors, counselors, librarians, financial aid coordinators, campus nurses, teachers-on-special-assignment, program specialists, assistant directors, instructional specialists, coordinators, long term temporary substitutes, and re-employed retired hourly certificated employees as described above.

Our mission is to provide fair and nondiscriminatory representation to all unit employees, advocating for their interests in all matters relating to their employment with the District.

We are committed to:

  • Negotiating exclusively with the Board to establish and uphold terms of employment.

  • Working to create greater job stability for the part-time faculty workforce at LBCC.

  • Addressing and improving working conditions, compensation, and benefits for our members.

Your CHI Board represents and advocates for part-time faculty at Long Beach City College. The Executive Board provides organizational leadership and oversees the day-to-day work of the union, while our Representative Council members help ensure part-time faculty voices are represented in CHI's decision-making and advocacy.
